Good news for those in the CMA® (Certified Management Accountant) program: You now have two options for how you can take your exams.
Candidates for the English-language based exam can now register to take their exams either in-person at a Prometric Test Center or remotely using Prometric’s ProProctor™ remote assessment platform. To participate in remote proctoring, candidates will first need to register with IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) for the CMA exam, and then schedule a date and time for their exam with ProProctor. Remote proctoring will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
“Given the ongoing challenges of the pandemic and the recent advances in remote testing, it is an appropriate time for us to begin remote proctoring for our CMA candidates,” said Dennis Whitney, CMA, IMA senior vice president, certifications, exams, and content integration. “This year, we’re celebrating the 50th anniversary of the CMA program. Remote proctoring is one in a series of continuous enhancements to the CMA program that makes it the leading advanced certification for accounting and finance professionals in business.”
To commemorate the significant milestone of 50 years of the CMA program, IMA is planning several special events throughout the year. Plans include a recognition event at IMA’s Accounting & Finance Conference, which will be held (in hybrid format) on June 12-15. Also in June, Strategic Finance will publish a special issue on the CMA program. Throughout the year, monthly newsletter articles will profile accomplished CMAs, who will share reflections on their career journeys.
What’s Required to Test Remotely?
The remote testing option is available globally, except for a few select locations (the Crimea part of Ukraine, North Korea, Iran, Syria, and Cuba). In order to test remotely using the ProProctor platform, a candidate must agree to certain conditions and requirements, including:
- A candidate’s internet and computer system must meet certain capacity requirements.
- A candidate must be situated in an indoor (walled), well-lit room with a closed door and free from background noise and disruptions (an at-home location is preferred).
- The room’s entrance must be in full view of the camera, and the workstation and surrounding areas must be free from pictures, office supplies, electronic devices, and other materials.
- Prior to taking the exam, a candidate must complete a 30-minute Prometric check-in process.
Help from Prometric staff will also be on hand should any technical difficulties arise while a candidate is taking the exam.
Candidates who have already signed up to take the exam at a Prometric Test Center may switch to a remote testing format, provided they first cancel their original appointment. A rescheduling fee may apply.
