IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants) and IFAC (International Federation of Accountants), with the support of our global research partners and research advisors, conducted regional diversity, equity, and inclusion (DE&I) research in Europe with three primary demographic focus areas: gender, LGBTQIA orientation, and ethnicity. More than 3,000 survey respondents self-identified as current or former members of the accounting profession in Europe, and they varied in experience level, country, and age. Ninety-five percent of survey respondents in this study identified as being current or former members of the accounting profession in the following countries: Belgium, Cyprus, Germany, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

The study draws attention to DE&I issues in the Europe region where men outnumber women in senior leadership roles and there is a lack of representation of LGBTQIA persons and minority ethnic groups in senior leadership.

Research findings included in this report can help drive more diverse, equitable, and inclusive business environments and remedy DE&I gaps identified in this study.
